THE STORY
It was a gloomy February day in London and I was out for the night at the Sunday Service like no other. Pastor Dr. Banana was spinning records at Lion and Lamb, spreading his message of biblical proportions on the dance floor. It was the music church gathering that we should all attend on Sundays.
While I meditated by dancing it all away, I couldn’t stop thinking that the feeling of belonging, connection and a safe space that music and club culture can bring is stronger than that of any religion. And there I was on a healing journey in my little world, learning to be unapologetically me, opening up my vulnerability layer by layer and practicing gratefulness every time I attended a dance. Rewiring, rewriting, relearning.
And at that moment the usual thought came over me again. How can we spread this feeling? How can we show this attitude, this interconnectedness? And in that perfect moment I felt that everything seemed to slowly come into place in my mind. I already knew the answer.
The Sunday Service ended and we all transported to a place of comfort and easy vibes. An even safer space, where the world faded away behind closed doors and all that was left were the soft, cloud-like embraces of Moroccan rugs. Here I was grounded and surrounded by my tribe, sharing love hugs, laughs and good times, with the best music selection always there in the background to sooth us. These are the moments of perfect flow and the most intimate place I can ever go to with my friends. Here we are who we are, we remove the layers, we no longer hide, we are we. It’s Drugs on Rugs. A disruptive, boundary pushing creative community.
Drugs on Rugs is a playground to celebrate the amazing humans who make this world a better place, to co-create and express ourselves in ways that bring joy and healing to ourselves and those around us. We wear our message of awareness and gratitude on our sleeves, literally – on T-shirts, the voice that helps us spread our philosophy far and wide.
The truth is simple. The world can only become a better place if we work together, with a collaborative attitude that brings subcultures closer to each other and to Mother Nature, our only shared home. We are here to challenge the status quo and the current systems that hold us back – we are the cultural movement of the people, for the people.
Drugs on Rugs is a mindset, a playground where compassion and creativity intersect with love for life and each other. This is where we come to celebrate, elevate, disrupt and break the old systems one brick at a time.
We are Drugs on Rugs, and we are a soft spot to be!
